Application Procedures

Application Procedures

APPLICATION FEE for Virtual and Live applicants.

US$100 – Junior, High School, Young Artist, and Amateur. 

US$80 – Levels A & B.

Live Applicants:  Live applicants must submit the completed application form and applicable application fee online on or before May 15, 2024 (11:59PM HST).  Late applications will be accepted until May 31, 2024 with a late fee of $50.  Only complete applications will be accepted.

Virtual Applicants:  Virtual applicants must submit the completed application form, video link and applicable application fee online on or before June 1, 2024 (11:59PM HST).  Only complete applications will be accepted.

VIDEO AUDITION FILES

Please make sure that video audition files adhere to the following guidelines:

Repertoire for High School – Virtual & Live

  • Up to 15 minutes of any solo work.  Concerto is not allowed.  Program must include any virtuosic etude of the applicant’s choice.

Repertoire for Junior – Virtual & Live

  • Up to 15 minutes of any solo work.  Concerto is not allowed.  Program must include a first or last movement of a classical sonata.

Repertoire for Young Artist Level – Virtual only

  • Up to 20 minutes of any solo work.  Concerto is not allowed.  Program must include a virtuosic etude by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov or Scriabin AND first or last movement of a classical sonata. 

Repertoire for Level B – Virtual & Live

  • Up to 10 minutes of any solo work.  Concerto is not allowed.  Program must include a piece from the baroque period OR a piece from the classical period.

Repertoire for Level A – Virtual & Live

  • Up to 6 minutes of any solo work.

Repertoire for Amateur – Virtual & Live

  • Up to 15 minutes of any solo work of the applicant’s choice.  Concerto is not allowed.  Memorization is not required.

Recording Instructions

Entrants must upload an unedited, high-definition (HD) video of their performance to YouTube.

  • Applicant’s face and hands should be clearly visible.
  • All works must be performed from memory (except for Amateurs) and in their original form.
  • Video must not be edited, nor should any effects such as “reverb” be added.  Any evidence of audio that does not match the performance will result in disqualification.
  • Video must have been recorded within 3 months of submission.
  • Different pieces may be recorded on different occasions/venues.
  • Video recordings may be paused between each piece, however each work on the video must be a continuous and unedited performance.
  • In order to preserve anonymity during the audition process, please DO NOT add your name to the title of the individual files.
  • Your recording must be genuinely performed by you. 
  • Review your recording before uploading to ensure they are of good quality.
  • Please note that submitted recordings do not need to be filmed in a particular setting. Videos filmed in a practice room, a living room, a concert hall, a recording studio, or any other setting may be submitted. 
  • No substitutions of video are allowed once submitted.

OTHER REQUIRED DOCUMENTS – VIRTUAL & LIVE

The following supporting documents must be uploaded with the application:

  • Brief biography of the applicant.
  • High-res color photograph in JPEG file. 

 NOTIFICATION

Virtual applicants will be notified of the result by e-mail no later than June 15, 2024.
